We also have our Bimini cover at the sailmakers to have it restitched and a couple of small repairs. Restitching will buy us a couple of years for $200 vs $1000 to replace it. One small financial win for team Yarika.
On a high note, Melissa made it in safely yesterday afternoon. One of our 24 hour periods of all being together before I have to drive back to Austin this afternoon to go back to work. Thankfully my friends have a new sleeper chair that I get to break in over the next few nights.
Long Time No Blog
We did decide on a radar and a watermaker. I reset 3 deck hatches that were leaking. We have to do some rewiring and add an inverter so Melissa can make coffee in the mornings in her coffeemaker. There is now a TV and PS3. A wifi extender has fixed our wifi reception woes and the kids can use the laptops on the boat to do their homeschooling.
Melissa and I are still commuting to Austin to work. I love my friends for putting us up for a few days at a time, but I am sick of couch surfing. But, it is good to be gainfully employed and have income There is a freestanding ED 5 minutes from the boat that I have considered applying to but just can't see leaving a happy place.
The cats have been potty training. We have a kit that you use on the toilet to slowly get them to take care of business in the toilet instead of having to deal with litter and a litter box. The cats are super mellow and maybe a bit stupid. We have high hopes of success! We (Melissa) bought them each a self inflating life jacket in case they overboard. We have not made them wear it yet, but again, high hopes.
There is a new dinghy in our lives as well. I have been trolling Craigslist and finally hit gold. It is a 2002 Caribe 11.5 with a 2005 25 HP 2 stroke Mercury. The motor is a single owner and the boat is second owner and kept in a garage for the past 10 years. It cost a whopping $2500 and came with a trailer. I sold the trailer in a couple of hours for $250 and covered taxes and title with $100 left over. It runs like a bat out of hell and is too fast to run flat out with just me on board. We should be able to pull the kids on water toys with this. It will get us into the places quickly that our sailboat draft will keep us out of.
